The rain falls like felt-pen confetti
And the sun will not be drawn
In clouds laid out in blankets
You submit to a yawn.
The rays streak through windows
Like eyes pouring ink-stained tears
On a page that got smudged
Over years and years and years.
A line disappears from the page
And the sun becomes a ball
In years disguised as moments
I submit to them all.
Your almond eyes spill tears
Like boats on Niagara Falls
Before they disappear.
And you scrawl, you scrawl and scrawl.
The world hangs in one moment
You show me what you've drawn -
Your sun, your clouds, your rainbow
I submit to them all.
I'm a wreck in a storm
And I won't sleep through this one.
I'll draw us map to the shore
And steer on and on and on.
