Night Falls On Toronto

Cars ease over concrete bridges
Where only cars pass underneath,
And their lights all point to
Decadence undefined downtown,
Where the steel and glass skyline
Comes to life like Christmas.

Trains trawl empty into terminals
Where only distance is permitted,
And then they trawl back out
to somewhere near some city lights
Stood blinking in my eyeline
And leaving me restless.

Planes pierce a sky dreamed by lovers
And smiles wear masks in a world,
Where stars shine above and
Lights flash below her heart...
And I'm in some hotel room
As night falls on Toronto.
