A Walk With My Wine

An unreal summer's evening
The company of friends
A winding country road
With a pub at the end

A bottle of plonk
No care of vintage or grape
Just footsteps on tarmac
Walking with a sway

The talk jumps all over
As the sun starts to wane
The pubs around the corner
It's the weekend again

A cool glass of cider
Or a gin and lemonade
An evening in a beer garden
Life's issues soon fade

The moon appears demanding
It's moment in the sun
We move inside to candle light
And the warmth of whiskey and rum

The words now quiet and heartfelt
The honesty no longer caged
Conversation with no illusion
Now the drink is in control of what is said

Lights are dimmed
Time is called
Drinks are polished off
Time to go home

Those moments I see clearly
Through the dim mists of time
The long winter is over
The sun is starting to rise.
