Glass By My Side
There's a glass by my side
and a TV to pay attention to
and a god to worship
and a job to do
and a mortgage to pay.
There's a glass by my side
and the Bilderberg group
and flowers in the park
and chores in the morning
and dreams yet to realise.
There's a glass by my side
and an alarm clock
never more than
a second away
from going off.
Depending on your situation.
There's a glass by my side
and mouths to be fed
and windows to clean
if only they'd listen.
Turns out
I'm not as
young as
they thought
I was
when I
kept on all
those years ago.
I used to

There's a glass by my side.
There's a chat to turn off
or turn down, but it won't.
There's a doing that don't.
There's a glass by my side
then the bills I must pay
and the man I must be
and the people I'm not.
There's a glass by my side
and I represent those
who I can't abide
and that's when I slide.
There's a glass by my side.
It's the thought there are folks
who would rather I'm dead
that I've never met.
There's a glass by my side,
I'm a taker of thoughts
neither borrowed nor begged.
There's a glass by my side
and the unconscious many
dance to the tune
Of the fortunate few.
There's a glass by my side
and if you expected
some big ending
well, yeah, forget it:
there's a glass by my side
and I look inwards
to the backstreets of...
