I've been walking over seas
Watching the waves roll in
You were younger than me
A reel of a film, a flicker
To the man I was
Had I existed then.
It was as though the flowers
Breathed your last
The moment they laid me to rest.
Your image on a roll
Every seventh time
Washing over
With the dirt covering me
And you were always older
Anchored to a water, flowing
Like the centre of the ocean
Sun beating down like
A mainstream in a forest
Waterfall falling to a hole
Where the daffodils grow.
We were walking over seas
Stranded on an ocean
Kept from me, like a sad violin
Kept hidden from Menuhin.
Time's gone from here to there
From left to right
as dark as night
And I know I loved you
Just as well I know
You loved me back.
I've been walking overseas
Carrying flowers made of papers
Reporting bad, bad things
About misgivings, flings,
And uncut wedding rings.
Well the breeze struck me down
And the flowers were left
In a hole in the ground
Meant for a coffin.
It's a funeral with no one around.
No mourners, no pall bearers
No coffin winding by our old place
None of our unborn kids carrying wreaths,
Nor cards of condolence
Sending over seas
No obituaries.
