World's Loneliest Doll

You can see her in me
Look around,
Uninvited eyes
Invite themselves in...
Not least, mine.

I can see me in her
Pushing that chair
Pushed back hair
And crinkles for eyes.
Inviting me to dance -
Might as well.

I can see me in her
And I'm all grown up now
Mum's made-up
Like the world's loneliest doll.

Now, I can see a girl
Pulling at her past
Wanting this wastrel back
Wrinkles in the scarf
As she packs her daughter off.
