The Tumbleweed Memories Alphabet of The Alternative Part 16

Primer

Back to the Future directed by David Lynch. Or to be more honest a wonderful feature directed by Shane Carruth for the price of a used car. Almost by accident fellow engineers Aaron and Abe discover that their invention created for the purpose of weight reduction actually operates as a time travel device. Faced with the possibility of their life changing discovery will they be able to deal with all ramifications of stepping into the device? Primer is a labyrinth of story ideas, with no easy way out, upon first viewing the film leaves many questions, questions that are answered on subsequent viewings only to have more questions unveil themselves as soon as you think you have everything tidied up nicely. Neatly shot with crisp black and white photography and a documentary feel (aided by a clever voice over that helps move the story along), the films central premise is not shown through special effects (in fact the only real special effects are barely seen and hardly drawn attention to) Primer's ace is it's dialogue, Carruth's script is heavily scientific and utterly realistic, it makes you believe what you are seeing and makes you think about what you believe. A genius piece of film-making that aims at it's audience not under them.
