Incrementally, My Dear

When the girls all walked by the bus stop
Directions all their own, directionless.
I'd tell myself a million times a day
'She's not the one to heal me'
Then kill myself, incrementally.

I want to hear the chairs rattle
As they take them out.
I want to hear the birds sing, too.
I want the sun to shine on you.

I want to hear the laughs echo
Saying, 'Lover, I'll love you only.'
But I want these walls to whine
When we wind up lonely.

Love Bombs

I'm floating in space
Turning moon-boot beats In my brains
Switching supersonic lanes
aiming love bombs at aliens.

Pow.

Downloader

Keep a list of misdemeanours
Muses and mischievers
And once a week hand it in to me
So that I might shred it
In a fit of piqué.

Make the wretches work
for lumps of coal
Take delivery of souls
And burn them before me.

Give them Internet connections
Things beginning with "i"
And Blackberrys.
Give them time to think they're free.
Then let them cry before me.

Unfinished Infamy

Keep your ornaments by you now
You'll be needing
Every trinket you can cling to
When your god leaves you
In the company of me.
Follow my finger,
Let me lead you
where the skulls linger.

Long Dark Night

I'm driving down a long dark road
And it's a long dark night
The ghosts are peering
From hedgerows with yellow eyes.
Ready to run out
And turn me into one of them.

I'm driving down a long dark road
And it's a long dark night
I reach into the backseat
For a map I can't find.
I become aware of my breathing
The ghosts are peering
A noose appears around my neck.

Well Done Them

Someone's dropping coins
In a wishing well again.
Well, well done them -

Someone's scratching cards
With coins again.
Well done them.

Someone's playing cards again
Got an Ace and a ten,
Well done them.

Someone's got to roll the dice
Twice as good as half as nice.
Busted on black ten.
Well done them.

Break Out Like Stars

Break out like stars and let them shoot to places no one's ever seen nor will. Walk in fields, climb mountains, climb hills. See the sun set somewhere soon and sing toward the moon. Break out like stars follow footsteps in sand and take your lover by the hand. Keep reason close to reality, float freedom down rivers, jump onboard at least once, break out broken hearts pleading for love, let light shine weekends on your worries. Take seconds lasting hours for yourself. Break out like stars and drop anchors in rivers. Take up taking down things time in need delivers. Have faith the dark will bring the light, walk in fields, climb caverns. Watch the days tick by in years and the books go unread. Watch rattles rattle through your head. Break out like stars and let them shoot at nothing. Let loved ones wear dresses you picked from them. Let their feet whirl in Cinefilm black and white. Let them live again. Let images move from frame to frame, and savour the moments in between. Break out like stars and don't let them mock you. Break out like stars and don't let them stop you.

Future Anxieties

Lover, will you follow me
If I lose my way
Several decades from now?
Lovely, will you back me up
In fifty years
If I'm feeling that way out?
Lover, will you shed a tear
Then smile at me
As they put the lid down?

The Snows Of November

Huddling in the shelters
Where the buses pick up dreamers
Dropping off dealers
Sometimes, the scene moves
A million times before I see
A million more before I believe
I'll see the sun again.
Because the afternoons are dark
And the snows of November are coming.

Somebody Else

Somebody ruined a day
For somebody else
Without a reason...
Except for a hatred
He keeps to himself.

And in the time that it took
For the words to strike the heart
Of the victim,
the culprit was off on his toes.

Somebody ruined today
For somebody else
But there's a reason...
To do with the hatred
He holds for himself.

But in the time that it takes
For him to look into the mirror
His reflection
Is moving to somebody else.

Do, do, do, do, do.
Do, do, do, do, do.
Do, do, do.

I Want To Live

I'll just tug on down this made-up line
And pitch up in done place
Our ancestors stayed here in 1743.
Now, who'd like a wi-fi to a daydream?
You can have if you can find it -
It's somewhere over there,
Between the clarinets and Canada.

I want to receive
So that I might filter and give
Lord, I want to live.

Real Hearts Never Die

Real hearts never die
They just grow a little
More understanding
With the arrows.

Girl, keep me close
I hear the voices
From the ghosts of me
A little more than most.

Futility

You start out, you're just a kid
You give them people all you did
Make a couple of quid.
Spend it all getting stoned
And dreaming
Become vaguely complicit
In corporate scheming
But you rise above,
Take a vow of love
Use profanity
In a forlorn bid
To garner some pathetic notoriety
Drink your fill
while we tread our fucking mill
And end up feeling ill
I'll bet a pound
For every man alive
Who drowned
Or who was lost
And never found
Who'd have his time again.

Sans Apostrophe

Tuesdays turned my mind
To Monday, it is true.
Monday was the girl who
Packed her bags, buggered off
As I turned the key
That Wednesday
Now we're through.
Funerals on Sunday,
Sans apostrophe.

Ancient Photographs

Last night, before bed
I saw a photograph
of someone familiar
Staring back at me.
And last night, dreaming,
An old man, with grey hair
Wearing blue but happy
Took his wife by the hand
And went inside from the cold
And leafed through photos.

Reverse sideways

Killer viral contagion of influenza mixed with pie
The look of independence in the motorbike gang members eye.
Should we all need understanding when the slghtest thing starts to go right
Then the left hand turn on the road never travelled will always be nothing but slight.

Strange Grey Sunday

The ice is on the subway
When all around is blue
Weekdays seem much further
Than the miles of Saturday
Buildings that cry so skybound
Containing none that echo much true
Some people love one another
And some live lives all grey
